![]() I think they were *trying* and did a phenomenally bad job of it. I actually have less of a problem with her portrayal than most because I’m willing to give them some leeway (we’ve mostly assumed Samus’s personality) and I think they were trying to make a game about PTSD and depression. I already mentioned the Deleter thing, but Samus herself was slighted in the game. Having a singular creative vision is often times an asset, but this game would have greatly benefited from having someone else come in and say, “hey this is kind of stupid”. Getting back to the story, I think that it’s a decent story badly told. One last thing I want to say gameplay wise: best Ridley fight ever. What’s the point of putting in the best combat engine in any Metroid game when fights have no rewards? I spent most of the game avoiding fights because there was nothing to gain from them. The other thing I want to criticize in the gameplay department is that enemies don’t drop health. Also, the fake scan visor sections were a total pain in the ass there was never a good reason to go first person in this game. I think that it would’ve been much better to make it a wholly third person affair using the nunchuck for sensemove and C to fire missiles. I think that the control scheme while interesting, was unnecessarily cumbersome. There’s a lot of little things like that that make it seem a little half baked. For example the Deleter subplot just sort of disappeared about 2/3 of the way through the game and they reveal who the traitor is with no fanfare whatsoever. ![]() That being said, it’s more of a incomplete game then an actual bad one. ![]() While I understand the criticisms that people have of the game, I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I finally got around to playing Metroid Other M and I have to say, the hate for it is a little overblown.
